What is ChatGPT and How Can Restaurants Use It?

ChatGPT is a state-of-the-art language model developed by OpenAI that can understand and generate human-like text. It can be used in a variety of ways and by a variety of industries, including restaurants. We’ll be exploring how restaurants can use ChatGPT to enhance their business operations, provide better customer experiences, and market their business. With its ability to understand and generate human-like text, ChatGPT has the potential to revolutionize the way restaurants interact with their customers and operate their business.

In this article we’ll explore nine ways restaurants can use artificial intelligence to power their business and develop comprehensive marketing strategies and content.

9 WAYS RESTAURANTS CAN USE ChatGPT AND AI TO MARKET AND GROW REVENUE

1. Use ChatGPT to generate marketing copy

Stumped on what to write on your instagram post about your new app launch? You can give ChatGPT a prompt like “write me an instagram caption about our new app and loyalty program launching this week” and it will generate a caption for you. Ask it to make you five different options, or have it regenerate responses until you land somewhere you like.

Pro Tip: You can provide ChatGPT with tone of voice prompts to tailor it’s response specifically for your brand.

2. Use ChatGPT to translate content into different languages

Localizing content is the process of adapting a product, service, or the way you talk about your products and services to meet the language, cultural and other specific needs of a particular country or region. This can include translating content, adjusting design elements, or tailoring messaging to appeal to a local audience.

If you have a global presence or need a paragraph localized, try inputting it into ChatGPT with the request to translate to a particular language.

Launching in a new market? Localize your copy and brand voice to reel in your new audience:

P.S. Did you know that Londoners call takeaway bags doggie bags?!

Localizing your content will help build trust with consumers when you’re entering a new market and will ensure your messaging makes sense to the audience your marketing to. “Doggie bag” will make perfect sense for takeout in London, but in the United States it will be associated with doggie waste disposal, and that’s not a connotation we’d imagine you’d want next to your food.

3. Generate keyword rich content that will improve your SEO ranking and drive more traffic to your site

Improving SEO (Search Engine Optimization) through keyword-rich content can help your restaurant grow by making it easier for potential customers to find you online. By including relevant keywords in website content, meta tags, and other elements, you can increase your restaurant's discoverability on search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. This can lead to more traffic to the website, which in turn can lead to more sales and revenue.

Additionally, having keyword-rich content can also help to improve the quality of website visitors, as people who find the site through search engines are more likely to be interested in the products or services the business offers.

If you’re writing content for your website, maybe a blog post, the “about me” section, menu descriptions, or anything at all, ask the bot to rewrite the content for you to be more keyword friendly and SEO rich.

In the example above, ChatGPT took what we wrote and made it more keyword rich. By including more relevant keywords and rewording phrases to match common search inquiries, small tweaks like these will help your content appear higher in search results. You can hire a specialist to do this for you, or you can save time and money by doing it yourself with ChatGPT. Of course there is immense value in comprehensive SEO strategies via a paid professional, but for simple article enhancement, consider ChatGPT as a helpful tool.

4. Ask ChatGPT to write Google Search Ad Headlines and Descriptions

It can be exhausting trying to come up with something witty, short, and eye-catching for paid ads. There’s also the keyword optimization to keep in mind, character counts, and coming up with enough variations to satisfy the advertising tools. Make your life a bit easier next time and ask ChatGPT to write your ad headlines and descriptions for you.

5. Generate Menu Item Descriptions

Launching a new menu item or seasonal special? Going through a complete menu overhaul? Writing menu descriptions can get tedious, and not all of us are creative wordsmiths. Consider using the tool to generate menu item descriptions that you can use on printout menus, online, in email marketing, on social, and more.

In this example I sent ChatGPT a very simple prompt, and the tool ran with it, delivering a full and very descriptive paragraph on Turkey BLTs.

6. Create Buyer Personas

If you’re launching a new brand or concept, one of the first things you’ll want to do is establish your target audience and create a brand persona that will help tailor your communication and marketing strategy. As a non-marketer, building a brand persona can be an intimidating endeavor. As a starting point, you can use ChatGPT to inspire you and create a few different personas to play around with.

Having a defined persona helps your business in so many ways. To list a few, defining your buyer persona shapes how you target with marketing, eliminating wasting marketing dollars on folks who do not fit your target audience persona. It can help when writing copy, defining your products, and figuring out how to speak about your products – referring back to your buyer persona each time you write about your products will ensure you are consistently hitting your target guests' pain points and interests and sets you apart from your competitors.

7. Weather/EVENT Based Menus

When the weather changes, so do guests' buying behaviors. Have you ever noticed yourself craving comfort food once it starts to snow? Tracking down ice cream when the temp hits 50 degrees in Boston in April? Searching for wings on game day? AI can help us serve up menu items that make sense based on what’s going on outside your restaurant’s four walls.

At Lunchbox, we have built in AI functionality that reads the weather and serves up relevant menu items based on criteria set in the backend (i.e. “the first time the temperature drops below 50 degrees fahrenheit, pull X menu item to the top section”). That means that on a chilly day, you can make sure the first thing customers see when they land on your menu is a warm bowl of soup, or a hearty cup of chili.

8. Generate Menu Item Photos

Did you know, having images for all items on your online and app ordering platforms will bring 70% more orders and you will have 65% higher sales when compared to restaurants that do not? As small as it may seem, having modifier images for condiments like ketchup and mayo makes a huge difference on your bottom line. The beauty in ai? You don’t have to hire a photographer anymore!

Generate images for those missing modifiers or menu items using Lunchbox’s own AI image generator.

In the example above, we asked Lunchbox.AI to generate an image of a “side of ketchup in a circular small dish," with a pink background, using a photography style image. The tool came back with four different options I can easily download. If the bot doesn’t give you exactly what you were looking at the first go around, try adding more detail to your inquiry and generating again.

9. Need Content Ideas? Ask ChatGTP To help

You likely already have enough to do, coming up with content ideas does not need to be one of them. It can be challenging to constantly come up with new ideas for content, and keep up with all the different platforms. If you don’t have a social media manager, using ChatGPT to spark ideas or write scripts for marketing content is a great place to start.

Gone are the days of brainstorming and combing through social media for ideas.

To sum it up, ChatGPT can be a wonderful tool to help market your business, and we really haven’t scratched the surface yet. Between menu photos, generating captions, blog posts, keyword rich content, and powering chat bots to sound like real people, AI is here to help and it’s here to stay. We’re excited to see the discourse around ChatGPT and AI play out and are already dreaming up more ways to bake AI into online and app ordering.
